Pocket wheel at RUD-system

For hoist devices and conveyor applications

RUD produces pocket wheels for lifting devices in any requested dimensions and number of teeth.
The driving and reversing wheels are custom-built, so the bore and hub can be finished according to customer‘s request. The layout of the forces and selection of shaft-hub-connection has to be calculated by the designer as being suitable for the expected forces.
RUD determines dimensions and geometry for the pocket outline depending on the applied chain and the chain tolerances to guarantee a perfect fit and a smooth, low-wear chain run. The wheels are finished by observing smallest tolerances on all sides and case hardened to reduce wear. RUD driving and reversing wheels are manufactured in a way to support the horizontal, as well as the vertical chain links on a polygon. Only by the overall support of vertical and horizontal chain links the best possible power flow to the single chain links is achieved and stress in the chain links is minimized when running over the wheel. If the vertical chain links are not supported, the horizontal chain link will be jammed during entry into the pocket wheel between the vertical chain link and the rest of the wheel and has to be swung under load until it comes to a rest on the pocket bottom. Doing this the bending stress in the horizontal chain links is increased by up to 40%, which may lead to fatigue at high nominal stress. If the vertical chain links are supported by a round groove pointed in the centre of the leg, an increased bending stress in the vertical chain link is induced which can lead to a fatigue fracture, too. By an overall support of the vertical chain links on a polygon quenching of the horizontal links is prevented. They can swing in almost stress-relieved.

Other wheel dimensions on request:

The bore and hub design can be done at the customer‘s request.

The dimensioning and choice of the shaft/hub connection is the responsibility of the system designer.
Recommendation: E = 1,7 x F.

When ordering RUD pocket wheel, please give the following data:

  • Chain size and number of pockets
  • Hub length E+C
  • Hubdiameter F
  • bore diameter B, with fit (if not specified, finish will be for fit H7)
  • Keyway for parallel key acc. to DIN 6885-1); width P9 or JS9, or tapered keyway to DIN 6886 or DIN 6887 direction in which key is driven in
  • Tapped hole for setscrew, with position, if required
  • toothing with requested DIN-standard
